New look for
san diego's illumina
Reno Contracting completed three projects for Illumina, Inc. with an initial tenant improvement, an expansion of the TI, as well as a pedestrian bridge.
The interior consists of a 55,331 square foot facility that encompasses two stories of office and lab space over one level of above-grade parking and one level of below-grade parking. New amenities include modern laboratories, large meeting and training rooms with overhead partitions, a full service cafeteria, coffee bar, and large board rooms with a state-of-the-art AV system.
The expansion was on the second floor and included 15,794 square feet of light tenant improvements, such as constructing interior walls, a copy and break room, new carpet, paint, and ceiling tiles.
The one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge connects both buildings where Illumina is a tenant. Designed by Ferguson Pape Baldwin Architects, the bridge has a fabric canopy that stretches its entire length and is supported by two masts with a cable-stayed design. High-end finishes consist of stainless steel, etched and back-lit glass, colored concrete and painted metal panel cladding. |

ResMed Corporate Headquarters Wrapping Up
 |
The ResMed Corporate Headquarters will be completed later this month. |
ResMed Corporate Headquarters is being constructed on a 9.77 acre site and consists of a 6-story mid-rise complex, attached to a 2-story low rise structure and a 6-level parking garage containing 752 parking stalls.
As the facility is located within a mixed-use residential community, extensive screening (using materials similar to the building facade) of mechanical equipment has been provided to reduce noise and to insure that the equipment is not viewed by the surrounding neighbors. The parking structure has been clad in the same material as the main building proving a less industrial type look for the community.
The building incorporates 230,238-square feet of total office space. The interior utilizes many high quality finishes such as Trespa®, Alucobond®, zinc and stone panels in the design. Rare hard woods have been used in the millwork, cabinetry and doors throughout the building. Stone from a Brazilian quarry has been selected to cover the exterior and interior surfaces.
Many technological advanced innovations have also been incorporated into the construction. The exterior stone is attached to an aluminum honeycombed backed sub straight that provides a lightweight, mechanical fastening system, for ease of installation. The metal panels incorporate a radius, and in some instances, twists along the building line. Sprinkler heads offer a flex connection, making it much easier and less time consuming to install in precise locations as the design dictates.
This facility is the single largest user of this new technology in the state. Green construction methods have also been considered within the design.
ResMed makes devices to treat sleep apnea and similar sleep breathing disorders and is relocating from its headquarters in Poway to meet the needs of company-wide growth.
