SAN DIEGO’S FIRST LEED SILVER project BUILT BY RENO

Recently completed Kilroy Sabre Springs Building III holds the distinction of being San Diego’s first Silver LEED-certified core and shell building. The prestigious Silver Certification, given by the United States Green Building Council, was awarded through their LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system. Within the next few months, an additional four buildings built by Reno will also become LEED Certified. This is one of the reasons why Engineering News-Record named Reno one of the “Top 50 Green Contractors” in the nation for the past two years.

Smart Building for Silver Certification
Reno’s staff worked closely with the architect and owner, strategizing the complex issues necessary to fulfill the LEED certification requirements. By capturing and using existing water from a shallow water table under the parking structure, Reno’s engineers were able to provide landscape irrigation while lowering the property’s water bill. The water would have otherwise been diverted to storm drains.

First in LEED-Accredited Staff
With a large team of LEED Accredited Professionals on staff, Reno works diligently with clients to meet the challenge of incorporating sustainable materials and energy conservation into their building strategies. Eric Scheidlinger, Project Engineer an LEED-Accredited Professional, believes that “…building green is a responsibility that the construction industry has, and it is up to us to make sure that projects have as little impact on the environment as possible.”

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

  • See how we saved energy in Building III through a “cool roof” which reduces the need for air conditioning;
  • How, by finding a shallow water table under the parking structure, our engineers captured the water for landscaping irrigation rather than divert the flow to storm drains;
  • How the use of high-recycled-content construction materials resulted in a reduction in the environmental impact.

Your opportunity to view Reno Contracting’s LEED Silver-Certified Building III at Kilroy’s Sabre Springs Campus is for a limited time—we ask that you book your tour with us today.
