IN ITS SECOND DECADE, RENO CONTRACTING BUILDS ON ITS REPUTATION OF QUALITY CONSTRUCTION
It’s no secret that San Diego’s Reno Contracting has built its enviable reputation by adhering to tough schedules, maintaining the highest-quality construction ideals and by forging close relationships with its development partners. The worth of Reno’s ability to meet the challenges of controlling costs while maintaining assertive construction schedules can be seen in the buildings that dot the San Diego county landscape. Class-A projects reflect the commitment of Reno Contracting to its ongoing association with owners and developers such as Cisterra Partners, Kilroy Realty, Sudberry Properties and Blackmore Company, each of who are at the forefront of San Diego’s thriving building community.
As San Diego County’s fifth-largest building contractor, and one of the fastest-growing companies in San Diego, Reno’s president Walt Fegley is quick to give credit to the contractor’s 70-plus employees for attaining the success achieved by the company. “…Technical knowledge and dedication equates to high-quality results,” says Fegley, adding, “…Reno is about relationships and commitment.”
Working in a true collaboration with architects, engineers and owner/developers is at the heart of Reno Contracting’s philosophy of doing business.
New Projects Continue to Rise in the County
Completed in May of this year, the 500,000 square-foot regional headquarters for Intuit Inc. exemplifies Reno Contracting’s collaborative partnership with Kilroy Realty Corporation (KRC), San Diego’s largest owner/developer of office properties. Kilroy’s Senior Vice President of Development Justin Smart expressed his confidence in Reno Contracting while visiting the new four-building business campus: “The Intuit project was very a demanding project all around, with deadlines and milestones that had to be met, and once again Reno exceeded our expectations.”
Maintaining their position as one of Southern California’s leading builders, Reno’s project at The Terraces at Copley Point, when completed in October 2008, will be 500,000 square feet of Class-A office space. The Sudberry Properties development features two six-story, buildings and a three-level garage. Strategically located near the junction of the 52 and 805 freeways, the 60-million-dollar project, which is scheduled for completion in October 2008, will help fulfill the needs of the area’s burgeoning business and population growth.
The Class-A Gateway at Torrey Hills project, a prestigious address at the edge of Interstate 5 on Carmel Mountain Road, is another milestone project with Cisterra Partners. The proximity to housing is another plus for tenants of the Gateway project. Considered the “last, best site for office space in Carmel Valley,” Gateway at Torrey Hills comprises two four-story buildings that feature energy-efficient technology and the use of sustainable materials—following Reno Contracting’s commitment to green construction wherever possible. During construction of Gateway at Torrey Hills, all building materials were recycled onsite, reducing landfill waste.
With the Torrey Hills project completed on schedule, Project Manager Rick Laferney credited the commitment to excellence by the entire Reno staff for its exceptional performance, accurate cost analysis and speed of construction: “Reno has a long history of following through within budget, finishing on schedule and a never-ending desire to build quality properties.”
Peer Awards Indicative of Reno’s Quality and Performance Ideals
Focusing on projects within the Inland Empire is indicative of Reno Contracting’s ability to continue building its reputation of quality as it takes on dynamic construction challenges. Working with its development partner, The Garrett Group, Reno constructed the Ridge Park Office Center, a 13-million dollar commercial office project with three buildings on five scenic acres overlooking the Temecula Valley. The site has been enhanced with “Old World” architectural elements featuring dramatic arches and landscaping that include mature citrus trees that recall the region’s heritage. Reno’s success with this project was honored by the San Diego Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, who awarded the company its Excellence in Construction Award. Reno was chosen from 27 companies that had submitted projects for the competition. Following that prestigious award, the success of the Reno’s collaboration with Cisterra Partners on the DiamondView Tower adjacent to Petco Park resulted in the project recently being named recipient of a Merit Award for Excellence in Construction, given by the Association of General Contractors in San Diego.
The highly motivated group at Reno will continue to maintain its high level of service as it focuses on future projects.
