RENO CONTRACTING ANNOUNCES NEW SCRIPPS CLINIC NEARING COMPLETION

By late summer, Scripps Healthcare doctors, nurses and staff will have a brand-new facility to provide the highest quality of services and treatments to patients. Located in Rancho Bernardo, the $51 million project is being built by general contractor Reno Contracting. The new medical facility will replace an existing building adjacent to the current clinic, thus expanding Scripps Clinic’s services to meet the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing North County San Diego.

According to Walt Fegley, President of Reno Contracting, “The project itself has run very smoothly, mostly because of detailed planning in advance, which entailed the selection of materials, improvements and target dates.”

When completed, the 150,000-square-foot Scripps Clinic will house a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center and recovery bays, a fully digital radiology department, MRI facilities, general surgery and organ transplant services, as well as an expanded urgent care center, a sports medicine unit, and more space to provide primary care services.

Reno was contracted by Kilroy Realty to construct the shell and core of the facility, and was later hired by Scripps to build the tenant improvements. Reno Contracting was chosen by both firms due to its track record in meeting aggressive schedules, accurate cost estimating and their extensive experience with similar projects.

The clinic, which was originally slated for completion in October 2008, will now be ready as soon as August. Several factors allowed them to stay ahead of schedule: Reno’s ongoing relationships with subcontractors and various trades went "the extra mile" to assure top-quality construction.

Additionally, Reno's clear and systematic day-to-day documentation of the project assisted the design team in quickly resolving build-out issues during construction, thereby avoiding delays and costly overruns. With the building team and temporary facilities already in place, Reno was able to mobilize directly from shell construction to the TI phase of the job without delay.
