RENO ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEW INLAND EMPIRE OFFICE
In response to increasing demand in the region, San Diego-based Reno Contracting has announced the opening of a new office—at 26395 Jefferson Avenue, Suite B, in Murrieta—to serve the Inland Empire area.
According to Walt Fegley, president of Reno Contracting, Reno has a growing presence in the region, with recently-completed projects including Temecula's Ridge Park Office Center, a $13-million, 3-building office complex that was honored with an Excellence in Construction award from the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC). Temecula Highlands, a 70,000 square-foot facility that houses RBF Engineering and Redhawk Business Park— a 2-story office and industrial park located in Temecula's Redhawk community—are also among the area commercial and industrial-office projects constructed by Reno.
"We are concentrating on the commercial office build-to-suit market along the I-15/215 corridor," said Fegley. "We expect commercial and industrial development to follow the phenomenal residential development that has taken place here over the last decade. With our extensive commercial-office construction capabilities, we're well positioned to accommodate the escalating demand."
Reno is the leading commercial builder in San Diego County—and renowned in the industry for its excellent standing with subcontractors and team-oriented approach. According to Fegley, "We believe this philosophy will serve us well as we continue to expand, and are focused on cultivating and solidifying enduring relationships with industry leaders and subcontractors throughout the Inland Empire region."
Dan Schwartzer will head up the office as Area Manager. He will work closely with Project Manager Wade Richardson to serve Riverside County, including the entire Temecula Valley.
Green Building and Design a Cornerstone of Reno's Future Success
As an active U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) member dedicated to sustainable building and design, San Diego-based Reno Contracting is committed to preserving the environment and keeping abreast of the latest "green-design" technology and practices.
Why is Reno so committed to green-design and building principals?
Quite simply, the green-building process significantly reduces the negative impact of buildings on the environment—and area residents—by ensuring sustainable site planning; safeguarding water and water efficiency; focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy and conserving materials and resources.
Among the many additional benefits of the green-building process are the reduced impact of natural-resource consumption, lower operating costs and improved indoor environmental quality—all resulting in enhanced health and comfort for everyone involved.
As one of the region's leading contractors, Reno provides a full range of construction services for commercial, industrial and biotech firms—and is poised to make an important and positive impact on San Diego's burgeoning green-building industry.
To that end, Reno works hard on a daily basis to promote green-building practices on each and every job site. For instance, Reno is currently implementing an ambitious construction waste-management program to divert fifty to seventy-five percent of construction debris from landfill disposal on all of its jobsites—recycling or reusing the materials at appropriate locations—in accordance with LEED-certification guidelines.
A hallmark of USGBC is its establishment of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) system, a rating method for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Promoting a "whole-building" approach to sustainability, Reno has four LEED-accredited professionals on staff and carefully trains all employees on the LEED system and the principals of green building—offering its entire staff full-day seminars by local green-building experts Drew George & Partners.
Reno also has an innovative green-building committee charged with creating a progressive marketplace niche and raising the company's profile as a green builder. To further educate employees, Reno has established an onsite "green" library—complete with comprehensive green-building information and documentation.
With a goal of establishing itself as the leading green builder in San Diego County, Reno plans to keep growing and evolving on the green-building front by further remaining active with USGBC, educating its employees and adhering to the LEED's system and basic green-design and building principals.
Specific goals for the company include: the completion of ten LEED-certified projects in the next decade; ensuring that a minimum of 25% of its staff are LEED-certified; conducting an effective recycling program at corporate and project-site offices; converting all company vehicles to energy-efficient status and providing expert analyses to the industry on the costs of green building.
The bottom line? Reno is fully focused on making environmentally-sound decisions for the mutual benefit of clients and subcontractors—and its family of employees.

PROJECTS IN PROGRESS:
Rancho San Diego Hilton Head
The Rancho San Diego Hilton Head office building is designed by Pacific Cornerstone Architects as a two story concrete tilt-up which, when finished, will feature a courtyard at the front entry, clay tile roofing, wooden trellises, and a natural stone veneer that will give it a craftsman style look. Subcontractors currently involved in the project are Demcon Concrete, RCI, South Bay Welding, Sunset Glazing, Wirtz Tile, Bergelectric and Fick & Son Plumbing. The Owner, Tom Plein, will keep about half of the building for personal office and lease space and will sell the rest of the units as office condos.
The Rancho San Diego Hilton Head project may have gotten off to a slow start but we are moving right along. The first set of plans issued for Owner review has a date of October 2003. Our first record of transmittals to Subcontractors requesting pricing goes back to March of 2005. This project has also had numerous Reno personnel assigned to it and I would like to recognize all of them for their commitment to detail and solid recordkeeping that gave us the ability to pick up the ball and run with it without having to piece the job back together.
We moved a trailer onsite just before Thanksgiving. The underground was nearly complete at that time so we started digging footings while completing the underground work. The slab was poured on December 19th. The first lift of panels was on January 26th and we are hoping to have the second lift complete by February 23rd.
