WHY IT’S GOOD TO GO GREEN (AND HOW TO GET THERE)

As one of the nation’s Top Fifty Green Contractors (awarded by Engineering News-Record) Reno Contracting adopts green specifications into it’s work plan and is encouraging owner/developers, builders, architects and engineers to join the movement. At present, more than 1,100 commercial projects nationwide have been certified as green by the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.) More than 6,000 other projects are currently registered with the USGBC to gain LEED certification once completed.

As a LEED-certified builder, Reno Contracting is leading the way to constructing green buildings by focusing on creating sustainable, green projects with the same dedication, care and attention to budget and aggressive scheduling as it does with every construction project they assume. As the project progresses, Reno is responsible for submitting the project’s documentation to the USGBC for green certification.

The benefits of a green building are not just environmental. For the owner/developer, there are substantial savings that accrue through more efficient energy systems. A green structure can also maintain higher occupancy rates by promoting a healthier working environment.

Reno Contracting is a member of the US Green Building Council (USGBC), a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. It’s certification division, LEED combines with the USGBC to provide a reliable benchmark for rating commercial buildings through their green rating system. The USGBC is a coalition of corporations, builders, universities, government agencies and nonprofit organizations working together to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable for the developer and owner, and healthy places in which to live and work.

LEED encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria that result in LEED certification of green building projects.

By incorporating green systems into a project, builders are not necessarily adding cost to the job. While early on there were higher costs associated with building within green requirements, today the cost is minimal when compared to the long-term monetary, environmental and quality of life benefits derived from green-building construction.

The economic benefits of a green building are many:

  • Reduced operating costs
  • Enhanced asset value and profits
  • Improved employee productivity and satisfaction
  • During construction, recycling of waste materials reduces solid waste
  • Estimated payback in energy savings for green commercial office building is five years
  • Higher occupancy rates

10 great reasons to think green:

  1. Energy efficiency
  2. Reduced energy costs in the long run
  3. Better employee retention
  4. Health risk reduction in a green building
  5. Health and safety benefits are greater
  6. Perception of green building benefits mean higher tenant occupancy rates
  7. Reduces landfill solid waste
  8. Conserves natural resources
  9. Improved air and water quality
  10. It’s good for the environment, and consequently, good for humankind

The values that drive Reno Contracting are also the reasons for its ability to gain recognition from peers and professional building associations, winning the company many awards, including General Building Contractor of the Year from the AGC (Associated General Contractors). As Southern California’s premier general contractor since 1993, Reno Contracting is committed to maintaining and exceeding its reputation for staying on budget, meeting deadlines, providing quality construction and exemplary management.
