Chris HeimChris Heim
Project Director

Chris oversees the management of a project during the preconstruction and construction phase by providing input on such things as the budget, schedule & execution plan, subcontractors, cost-control system and monthly payments.  He interfaces closely with the construction team and receives weekly updates throughout the project duration.

With a construction career of over 30 years, Chris has a solid background in both project management and estimating.  In 1989, Chris moved to San Diego and joined MQ Construction, where he first met Matt Reno and Walt Fegley. Fours years later, when Reno Contracting was created, Chris came in as a Project Manager and has since been promoted to Project Director. During his career at Reno, Chris worked on many pivotal projects in the San Diego area, including Intuit, ComStream, LPL Financial Services, Legacy Northpointe/ViaSat, National University, Kilroy Sabre Springs, SDCCU Corporate Headquarters and Gateway II in Chula Vista. One of his Reno highlights was being awarded ASA Project Manager of the Year in 2002. Chris lives in Scripps Ranch with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, exercise, reading, movies and traveling to sunny tropical climates.

 

Erik Kissner

Director of Field Operations

As Director of Field Operations, Erik works closely with the preconstruction, project management and field teams providing input on:

  • Constructability coordination during pre-construction estimating  
  • Site logistics plan and determine the best construction sequencing
  • Scheduling input and final review of proposed schedules to Preconstruction Dept
  • Work scopes for major trades
  • Staffing requirements of proposed projects
  • Project procurement schedule - interface the design and preconstruction phase tasks into the project schedule, including the initial project procurement schedule to determine order dates for long-lead items.
  • Facilitate communication between Client and Operations/Field Teams
  • Perform Quality Control evaluations
  • Coordinate jobsite safety inspections
Erik joined Reno Contracting in 1998, and has since worked on projects, such as Sorrento Gateway, AMN Healthcare, Diversa Phase I and II for Kilroy Realty, National University, Biosite Corporate Headquarters, and Kilroy Santa Fe Summit. Erik currently lives in San Marcos with his wife Debra, and his two daughters, Samantha and Allison. They all enjoy traveling to New England in the summer and to Hawaii or Palm Springs in the winter or spring. Some of his personal interests include professional and college football, muscle cars, and playing guitar.

 

Craig HuenersCraig Hueners
Chief Estimator

Craig is the central, pivotal individual for the preconstruction portion of a project. He has a solid background in both project management and estimating. While managing both the project and team, Craig will provide input on the project budget, schedule and execution plan during the preconstruction effort.

Craig has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, with the past 13 years working for Reno Contracting as Chief Estimator and Senior Project Manager. Some of Craig’s major strengths are his experience with large-scale projects and his diversified knowledge of all aspects of construction, whether mid-rise, high-rise, office facilities or parking structures. Craig currently resides in Carmel Valley, CA with his wife and two grown children. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities, such as fishing, hunting and golf.

 

Rick LaferneyRick Laferney
Senior Project Manager

Rick manages all construction-phase operations for a project. He has a solid background in both project management and estimating. Rick will provide input and create the details for the schedule and execution. Some of Rick’s major strengths are his experience with large-scale projects and his diversified knowledge of all aspects of construction, whether mid-rise, high-rise, office facilities or parking structures - his expertise is all encompassing.

He joined Reno in November 2006 as a Senior Project Manager. Rick’s primary focus has been in the design-build arena where he has assisted many clients in achieving their budget goals through value engineering in the preconstruction process and by “hands on” project management. Rick enjoys the outdoors with his family through skiing, boating and family golf outings

 

Kevin HorstKevin Horst
Senior Project Manager

Kevin has a solid background in both project management and estimating. Working with the design team during preconstruction, Kevin will provide input and create the details for the schedule and execution plan. Kevin also oversees subcontractor selection and bidding during preconstruction. He implements and monitors the cost-control system, creating the schedule of values and monthly payment applications and resolving any changed conditions, while directing weekly development team meetings and expedites the response to questions and delivery of information.

Kevin is a consummate team leader who develops close relationships with owners and the design team early in the project. With the owner's goals in mind, he carefully examines risks—suggesting improvements and enhancements whenever possible. Kevin's background in large-scale medical projects is evidenced by his experience on the Scripps Clinic in Rancho Bernardo, coming in under schedule by two months and receiving an ABC Excellence in Construction Award. Kevin has also gained an extensive understanding of the subcontractor market in the Southern California area and he is a valuable asset to the Reno team. Kevin spends his free time surfing, collecting vintage surfboards and surf memorabilia; and with his wife, enjoys completing home improvements and being entertained by their cats.

 

Wade RichardsonWade Richardson
Project Manager

Wade is responsible for the Management of each project assigned including costs and financial reporting, coordination, sequencing, scheduling, and implementation of objectives from start up through completion of each project. In addition, Wade is responsible for directing, coordinating, maintaining and controlling the field team. Some of Wade’s major strengths are his experience with large and small scale projects and his diversified knowledge of all aspects of construction, whether concrete tilt-up or structural steel construction, mid-rise, high-rise, tenant improvements or parking structures.

Wade is a graduate from Louisiana State University, with a Construction Management Degree. Wade has a total of 28 years experience in the construction industry, with the past 11 years working for Reno Contracting as a Project Engineer and most recently, Project Manager. Wade specializes in high-end tenant improvement and lab projects, completing projects for companies such as Genoptix, AMS Plastics, LPL Financial, and TARGUSinfo. He has overseen projects for Relational Advisors, Peregrine Systems and The Blackmore Company. Wade, his wife and four children reside in Temecula.

 

Rod TowerRod Tower
Project Manager

As project manager, Rod is heavily involved in all aspects of each project, such as subcontractor selection and bidding, the value engineering process, cost-control, monthly payment applications, development team meetings, and budget updates.

A native of Montana, Rod started in the construction trades in 1980 and attended Montana State University. Rod has worked at Reno for 9 years and been in control of some of its best projects such as, Garrett Corporate Center in Temecula with a total of 3 structural steel buildings on 8 acres. Some of his most memorable projects are also San Diego County Credit Union’s corporate headquarters, Overland Data, Sabre Springs Phase II, Auld Golf Course, the parking structure at Santa Fe Summit, and Terraces at Copley Point. Recently becoming a Project Manager with 18 years experience as a Superintendent, Rod brings a lot to the position. He resides in Oceanside with his wife and enjoys exercising, playing golf and being a Porsche aficionado.

 

Bob Buchanan
Quality Assurance Manager
Bob has been in the construction industry in San Diego for 33 years. He started as a construction expeditor (a go-fer) for Signal Landmark at the Coronado Cay’s Marina project in 1969. In addition he has held positions as a Superintendent, Project Manager, Purchasing Agent/Manager and Construction Manager. After returning from Aruba, where he was the Construction Manager for a casino and timeshare renovation, Bob was hired as the new Quality Assurance Manager for Reno Contracting in early 2008. A native of San Diego, he spends much of his down time enjoying the many gifts that our fair city has to offer from the seashore to the mountains, from fishing to photography. Bob exclaims, “San Diego has been a great place to live, to work and to raise a family.”
